GLOBAL EARTH TRUSTEE AGENDA for the NEW MILLENNIUM

John McConnell - The Founder of Earth Day

INTRODUCTION

Back in 1933 Albert Schweitzer, a world renowned scholar, wrote that "the world is inexplicably mysterious and full of suffering."

The human race has a long history of violence - war, hate and injustice. But in the midst of all this chaos and violence we find some people replacing conflict with cooperation, and fear with faith finding a common cause and cooperating for mutual benefit.

In the human heart hope springs eternal. "Every time I hear a new-born baby cry, or touch a leaf, or see the sky, then I know why I believe."

As we enter a new millennium there is growing interest in a worldwide change of attitude that will encourage vigorous efforts for Earths rejuvenation. This age of Science has provided new evidence our unique planet has the raw materials and natural resources that with wise use of our new technology could provide a great future for the human family.

The following Earth Trustee Agenda can make the new millennium a new beginning for humanity. It provides the way to come together where we agree, with room for our differences. When world leaders and mass media see and firmly support this agenda - we will enter a new era of peaceful progress for the whole human race.

EARTH TRUSTEES LEGACY OF EARTH DAY

John McConnell founded Earth Day on March 21, 1970: Natures Day -- The March Equinox. He stated that the purpose of Earth Day was, "peace, justice and the care of Earth." From this came the idea of a global joint agenda for the care of Earth. We should all be Earth Trustees.

Growing in meaning through the years, this is now the agenda that can appeal to the most people and do the most good for people and planet.

EARTH TRUSTEE GOALS

"Let every individual and institution now think and act as a responsible trustee of Earth, seeking choices in ecology, economics and ethics that will provide a sustainable future, eliminate pollution, poverty and violence, awaken the wonder of life and foster peaceful progress in the human adventure."

Global Earth Trustee Agenda

KEYS TO SUCCESS:

1.  Adoption by all altruistic institutions of the Earth Trustee idea, seeking in their own way to implement its purposes. Use of the name "Earth Trustee" by everyone whose actions are helping Earth Trustee goals. This can increase our sense of identity with the whole human family and bring to our diversity the needed measure of global unity and cooperation.

2.  Recognition of two levels of reality physical and metaphysical. We can all respect the mysteries of life. In regard to religious beliefs there can be honest differences. But in order to act in the urgent matters in which we agree, we must allow for differences and not let them hinder our cooperation for Earths survival and rejuvenation. We must now come together in powerful agreement as Trustees of Earth. Let Christians, Muslims and Jews lead the way by making Jerusalem an Earth Trustee city!

3.  Report Earth Trustee Solutions on Internet Message Boards provided by Colleges or other responsible institutions.

4.  Icons of global harmony will be the celebration of Earth Day on every March Equinox (March 20, 2001), and the ringing of bells all over the world at the moment Spring begins in the Northern Hemisphere. When the bells ring we will prove the power of faith and love by our silent prayers and heart-felt commitment to be Earth Trustees.

The more we think and act as Earth Trustees, the better off we and our planet will be. Help make the new millennium an Earth Trustee Millennium!

You who agree with this message please take action now. Get it to the attention of world leaders. When leaders in positions of power make this their first priority, our planet will have a great future.
